You have come to Bamberg seeking asylum and you are looking for contacts and assistance? “Freund statt fremd” (Friends instead of strangers) offers you both!

Who are we?

As a refugee or as someone seeking asylum you have to find your way in a new country and deal with everyday difficulties. You want to learn German, become familiar with a new society and get to know local residents and agencies? Our association Freund statt fremd e. V. will help you with all of this to the fullest extent possible.

What can we offer you?

We would like to make it easier for you as a new resident to take part in social life in Bamberg – in culture, sports, education – and to find employment. We are committed to improved living conditions for refugees and fair procedures in evaluating asylum requests. We operate a clothing store, for example, offer tutoring services, and organize recreation activities. We provide support if you are looking for a job or want to get an education or go to college. Our sponsorship program brings refugees and local residents together. The individuals responsible for various topics and tasks work together in working groups.

Where can you find us?

Lui20, our center for cross-cultural get-togethers, is the best place to meet us, other refugees and Bamberg residents. Many activities take place here (see our calendar) and our Café Lui20 is open from 12 noon to 5 p.m. from Wednesday to Friday. Meals and drinks are provided here, and we only ask for a voluntary donation.

If you are new in Bamberg and you have many urgent questions begging to be answered, then you should come to our Saturday Café. From 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays is when we provide practical consultationfor refugees in Lui20. We will assist you with your questions about finding housing, if a decision has been made in your asylum request or in any number of similar situations: correspondence from the JobCenter, questions about working or continuing your education, health issues or family matters.

Come to Café Lui20, Luitpoldstraße 20, 96052 Bamberg!

Do you live in the AEO?

Then come to the Welcome Café or Café Willkommen! You can find our café in the AnkER-Einrichtung-Oberfranken (AEO) in Block 4, through the first entrance, on the first (upper) floor and to the left. The café is open Monday-Friday 2-4 p.m.

We have set up a play room for the children in the AEO across from Café Willkommen. Please note the announcements posted there.

You would like to help us assist others?

Many refugees support our work. That is important to us, since who knows the living conditions and problems of refugees better than refugees themselves? You can take part in one of our many working groups or join the team at the café.
